Artist's Comments

An experiment in painting with coffee (regular and espresso ... heh) and India ink on bristol. I personally hate the stuff (I mean coffee ... I have nothing against India ink, although you won't catch me drinking that either). But I wanted a brown colour, and I was too cheap to get brown ink. So, coffee.

Didn't have a subject in mind when I started this. I thought one of the ink spots looked like a face, so I painted the scary angel dude around it.

Now my apartment smells like burnt coffee. :P

I love how the figure is very subtle and barely seen. That with the wings adds a very nice effect. I really love the whole feel to the piece; especially how the wings are really the only thing which extends into the white border.

The brown ink that I have actually ends up the perfect color of blood. Maybe it's just the brand I have.

I had fun doing this ... it was the first time I'd attempted this sort of thing, and I think the coffee worked unexpectedly well. :)

LOL! I ordinarily enjoy the smell of coffee, and I like things which taste like coffee but aren't ... I mean, whoever invented coffee flavoured yogurt is a genius. ;P But it does get to be a bit overpowering when you've been painting with stale coffee grounds for a couple of hours, and the apartment is basically a small bedroom .... :O It still smells like coffee in here, although I think I'm getting used to it. ^^

Before today, I'd never heard of coffee as a medium.. You get a +fav just for that. <3 Though don't be offended.. I like a lot of your gallery better. :D
