Okay! So I tried a few things, and I ended up being most satisfied with this one. (My scanner, however, was not so thrilled and made every attempt to ruin me as usual. :/)

This is for a trade with ~Makeinu, who is awesome. X3 The prompt was "an unexplainable feeling of nostalgia," so for this piece I tried to illustrate something I've had in mind for a long time without knowing where it came from. I have such a clear impression of this place--the stone cabin at the edge of the woods, and the apprehension of something approaching--that it almost feels like a memory or a dream, but it isn't, as far as I know. (Chances are, it's something I read in a story somewhere, or saw in a movie, and then promptly forgot about, or something likewise unpoetic, but, y'know. :/)

Oh, and the colouring sort of ended up being inspired by `Senecal's piece, The Octobermen, although that's not what I had intended at first. In my mind it's more of a greenish-grey and dark blue sort of thing, but I thought the red worked better with the coffee. :B

India ink, espresso, red conte, and collage (the moon is a cut-out from the inside of an envelope) on bristol. I apologise for the bad scan; the paper curled up and I couldn't get it to flatten out, even in the scanner. :/ (I might try to scan it again later ... I mean, it also came out kinda small, so I guess a little editing wouldn't hurt.)

Thanks so much for the trade, ~Makeinu! I hope this is all right. <3

I like how you can differentiate the trees from the house even though they are the same in image. I also like the cow(or is it a pig), in the foreground, and the use of the same sorts of colors to create an image. It's beautiful.

Having something in common with Mahatma Gandhi, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, and Sir Isaac Newton, isn't so bad...right?
:iconstitchedmoon:
Thank you! I had trouble making the house stand out at first, but I was hoping the red around it would help. :3 I'm actually not sure what kind of animal that is in the foreground ... I guess it could be anything, since I just wanted to have some kind of silhouette there, and I didn't have anything specific in mind. But yay, I'm glad you like it! :D

It looks really, really dry... Like it reminds me of the past of somewhere here in Arizona x_X

I think the color choice and blending was perfect. I really like this one a lot...I'm not usually a fan of the color red (in fact, I dislike it a lot), but when used correctly, it works wonderfully with the rest of the pic ... which I personally think you did.

Great work ^^

Wow, thank you so much! I actually never really used to like the colour red, because I think it has the tendency to be over-dramatic ... but for some reason, right now I'm having a lot of fun with it. XD I'm really glad you think it works in this picture!

I like this piece. It's dramatic, but not over-dramatic. I like the 'warmth yet lonely' feel <3

Yeah I seem to have a lot of problems with red. I usually tone it down to a more ... grayish color if you know what I mean >_>. I think you did well with this one though ^^

LOL! :D (Your avatar is awesome, by the way. :3)

And thank you! I'm really glad you like it~ ^^
